When using session ILOBs in IceBreak I do not know the real i5/OS name of the ILOB. It would be very useful to know this. There are many APIs that require the qualified name of the user space – eg. QUSLOBJ, QUSLJOB, QUSLSPL). With IceBreak ILOBs this name is not known – so ILOBs cannot be used with such user spaces.

Is there a way in IceBreak to retrieve the real name of the ILOB so that it can be used with the above APIs?

Hi Syd;

We will give you this function:

  qualobj = ILOB_getObjName();

But you must know that ILOB's are a litle more that just userspaces. the pointer you get is a pointer to the payload. Before that is ha an header containing the HTTP header (if it was a part of an webservice call) - the CCSID, the length etc.

So if you run a QUSLSTOBJ into an ILOB - you will mess it up bigtime...

So - things like QUSLOBJ are ill advised?

Would that still apply even if the sole purpose of the ILOB was to hold user, object, spool file, etc., information in the session. Only being reloaded if a refesh was required?

The use of a an ILOB in this way, would allow individual pages to be returned to the browser as either XML or JSON, and allow for page/up down at the users request. In effect, the ILOB is used instead of a DB file to hold information for the browser.

If this is still ill advised and would mess up big time, would a future IceBreak update allow this type of usage?

Hi Syd;

We can give you the function

  pUs = sesGetIlobUS('myilobname');

which returns a pointer to a plain UserSpace.

In this kind of ilob userspaces you only can retrieve its name, all other functionalities is plain user space.

Still the userspace will be memery manages by ILOB's so they are session stable.... how does that sounds ??
